A long time ago, I thought about doing some "Tales of the Jedi" figures, but my sculpting skills weren't
very good, and I thought they might come out badly. So one day I thought, "well, I might as well
do those now, since I'll probably get to them eventually anyway." So I started with Ulic, the star.
I took the body from Obi-Wan and added the legs from old Ben from POTF2. I cut the boots off the
legs and superglued them to the boots from Darth Vader. I was trying for an action pose, but it didn't
quite come out right. Then I took the upper arms from the Xyber 9 figure, Mick (gotta love those
Xyber 9 figures), and the lower arms from Labria (the Devaronian from the Cantina Aliens CS) and
superglued them together. I painted the sleeves, mid-skirt (some pictures show this as red), and outer tunic a mix of white and teal.
The pants and inner 2 tunics were painted red. I superglued the arms to the torso (they didn't have
arm-pegs). Next I added a thin layer of Sculpey over the shoulder pads on the arms and etched in
the design; I also added extensions out of Sculpey onto the torsro (since the arms are glued down, it
doesn't matter). Next, I wanted to lengthen the wrist-guards, so I superglued some lengths of
rubber band around the forearms and painted the guards brown, as well as the shoulder pads. Then
I started on the head. I cut the ponytail nad Padawan braid from Obi-Wan's head and sanded down.
I added some Sculpey to the front of his hair to give him some bangs, as well as some to his cheeks
to fill out his face a little and make him look less Obi-Wanish. I then painted over his hair with brown
and his face with flesh tone. Finally I tackled the saber. I took a Qui-Gon saber and cut off the blade.
I filled in the hilt details with Sculpey and cured. Then I made the emiiter "spikes" on the blade with
Sculpey and cured that. I superglued the blade back onto the hilt (applying liberal amounts of glue
on the blade and hilt themselves as well as the joint, to make it more resistant to breakage). Finally,
I painted the hilt silver. |
